Why Joe Biden HAD to Pardon Anthony Fauci

Just hours before Trump assumed office, Biden granted a preemptive pardon to Dr. Anthony Fauci, retroactively covering his involvement in funding gain-of-function research at Wuhan.

If COVID-19 wasn’t made in a laboratory, if Dr. Fauci didn’t fund COVID-19, if the shot was “safe and effective”, then why does Dr. Fauci need a pardon?

On Monday, with just hours left in his term, Biden issued a blanket pardon to a number of close political allies and family members. Among those named was Dr. Anthony Fauci, former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

The pardon granted to Fauci covered “any offenses against the United States which he may have committed or taken part in from January 1, 2014, through the date of the pardon.” This sweeping protection extended to his time as NIAID Director, his role on the White House Coronavirus Task Force, his position on the COVID-19 response team, and his service as Biden’s Chief Medical Advisor. Notably, the pardon was backdated to 2014—years before SARS-CoV-2 first emerged.

This effectively shields Fauci all they way back to the very beginning of COVID, when, as director of the NIH, he oversaw a grant awarded to EcoHealth Alliance, a U.S.-based nonprofit research group led by Peter Daszak. The grant funded research on bat coronaviruses, including gain-of-function experiments with Shi Zheng-Li, a virologist at the Wuhan Institute, despite a federal moratorium on such research at the time. The pardon also protects him from the lab leak theory that COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan lab and the U.S. government was aware of this.

Biden’s team argued that politically charged investigations can wreak havoc on the lives and reputations of individuals, even if no wrongdoing is found. “Baseless and politically motivated investigations disrupt lives, threaten safety, and ruin financial security for individuals and their families,” the letter stated. Ironically, this rationale mirrors the tactics many say were used to tarnish President Donald Trump.

Shielding Fauci from scrutiny may not be about fairness but about silencing uncomfortable questions. Fauci’s career is not without its controversies, as highlighted in Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s book, The Real Anthony Fauci. The book alleges that Fauci oversaw ethically questionable and harmful medical experiments on vulnerable children and animals—details the establishment would prefer to leave buried.

RFK Jr.’s book revisits accusations surrounding drug trials on HIV-positive foster children at New York’s Incarnation Children’s Center during the late 1980s and 1990s. It also recounts allegations of animal experiments involving beagle puppies exposed to flesh-eating insects. While these claims remain disputed, they paint a troubling picture that could have resurfaced under closer scrutiny.

Fauci’s career also includes a series of high-profile missteps in public health forecasting. His inaccurate predictions about swine flu in the 1970s, bird flu in 2005, and Zika virus in 2016 caused unnecessary alarm while funneling billions of taxpayer dollars into government agencies and pharmaceutical companies.

The COVID-19 pandemic, however, is what sealed Fauci’s reputation—and criticism. Early in the pandemic, Fauci publicly dismissed the effectiveness of cloth masks, only to later reverse course and endorse mask mandates. His initial claim, he later admitted, was intended to prevent panic-buying of masks needed by healthcare workers. This perceived deception eroded public trust.

“Fauci affected people’s lives, made it difficult for them to live, work, travel, to actually flourish, to self-determine, as we are all given God-given rights. Shame on you. You inspired and created fear through mask mandates, school closures, vaccine mandates that have destroyed the American people’s trust in our public health institutions. You should be known as Dr. Fear.”

Fauci also advocated for widespread lockdowns, later denying he had done so, and pushed for school closures and mask mandates for children long after data suggested these measures were unnecessary. His shifting narratives and overstatements about the effectiveness of vaccines further undermined his credibility.

So why was a pardon necessary? The real concern lies with Fauci’s alleged involvement in gain-of-function research — the most likely source of the COVID-19 pandemic that killed millions of people

Fauci’s NIH supported gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in 2017 and 2018—despite a federal ban on funding such experiments from 2014 to 2017. While there’s no conclusive evidence (yet) linking this research to the origins of COVID-19, Fauci’s denial of involvement under oath raised questions of potential perjury. A federal investigation could have brought these issues to light, further damaging the reputation of both Fauci and the political establishment that supported him.

By issuing a preemptive pardon, Biden’s administration avoided reopening these wounds, shielding Fauci from legal and public scrutiny.

The billions funneled into agencies and pharmaceutical companies during his tenure suggest a system that rewards expanding its own influence rather than safeguarding public health.

In the end, the pardon raises more questions than it answers. If there’s nothing to hide, why does Dr. Fauci need a pardon at all?
